Land to the rear of The White Heart Pub, Hartlebury

Proposed residential development on surplus area of beer garden and neglected grassland.

The position of this site, as part of the pub’s beer garden, adjacent to the Local School and situated next to Hartlebury Castle, a listed building, called for a sensitive approach in designing speculative housing. The approach was taken to reflect the relatively small scale of the surrounding buildings in the design by means of incorporating different materials and breaking the elevations up in small individual sections. By siting the buildings around an attractive courtyard, the split between the public side and the private site was clearly expressed and allowed for an attractive public space to be created.
